Farm Calendar 2008-2009 Season Reservations are required for all on-farm events, unless otherwise indicated. Please call (941) 637-4874, or e-mail the farm to make a reservation. 2008 November – March, 10:00 a.m. Group Tours - Mondays & Fridays, or other days by special arrangement Public Tours - Saturdays Take a tractor-drawn wagon ride with a friendly guide, and get introduced to life on a working organic family farm. Learn about certified organic vegetable production in Florida, see the family collection of farm animals – beef cattle, dairy goats, chickens, and pigs, and get your questions answered about how to garden organically. School groups, homeschoolers, garden clubs, and other community organizations with groups of 12 or more can reserve a tour for Monday or Friday. Tours can be customized to include specific topics, such as pollination, water and nutrient cycles, insects, or species diversity. Please tell us about your group’s special interests when you make your reservation. Public tours on Saturdays are for individuals, and groups of less than 12. Tour participants are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the farm after the tour. The farm gate opens for tours at 9:30 a.m. and closes at 1:00 p.m. Reservations required. Tours are $10 per adult, $7 for kids age 12 and under, and free for kids under 2 years. Tours are free to farm members and their accompanying guests. November 5, Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. First Fishermen’s Village Farmer’s Market of the 2008-09 Season Continues every Wednesday, November – April November 16, Sunday, 5:00 p.m. Farm-to-Table Dinner with Slow Food Southwest Florida Eva Worden from Worden Farm presents local, organic produce that Chef Kristina San Filippo of the Robb & Stucky KitchenAid Culinary Center will incorporate into a three-course wine dinner. Member Frank Pulice of Austin's Wine Cellar will pair wines with each course. Cost per person: $75 (of that, $10 benefits Slow Food Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to the enjoyment of fresh, sustainable foods). The event starts at 5 p.m. at the Culinary Center in the Robb & Stucky Casual Living and Outdoor Showroom 26501 South Tamiami Trail in Bonita Springs. November 23, Sunday, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Being Thankful - Yoga Celebration This Thanksgiving week, The Yoga Sanctuary and Worden Farm would like to invite you to participate in our 'Being Thankful' celebration. As cultures have given thanks for centuries for a bountiful harvest, join us as we express gratitude for the blessings in our life through the practice of yoga. This celebration will take place, appropriately, at Worden Farm, Charlotte County's only organic community farm. You will learn about organic vegetables and farming, experience a mini yoga session, and share in a brief meditation on gratitude. This event is for the whole family! All donations collected will go to the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition to help those in need also enjoy the benefits of 'Being Thankful' on Thanksgiving Day. Reservations not required. December 3, 4, & 6 First Harvest Share Distribution for Worden Farm Members December 7, Sunday, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Food Preservation Workshop Come to Worden Farm to learn techniques and recipes for creating pickling liquids that enhance and diversify the flavors of farm-fresh produce, and explore combinations of fruits and vegetables that taste great when canned together. Executive Chef Kristina San Filippo, Robb & Stucky KitchenAid Culinary Center, Bonita Springs Reservations required. $10 for members and $15 for non-members. 2009 January 11, Sunday, 1:00 p.m. Member Potluck Worden Farm members and friends are invited. A wagon ride farm tour at 1:15 will be led by Farmer Chris, and the meal will be at 2:30. Come visit the farm, and enjoy great food with other farm members and your farmers. Please bring your own place setting, lawn chair or picnic blanket, and a dish of 4 or more servings to share – it does not necessarily need to be vegetarian or organic. If you plan to attend, please call or e-mail the farm and let us know the number in your group. March 8, Sunday, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Organic Gardening Workshop Presented by Worden Farm owners Chris and Eva Worden, Ph.D.s, this workshop is an opportunity to learn all you need to know for planting a home or market vegetable garden. Topics include site selection, irrigation, crop planning, soil fertility, composting, and pest management. Beginners through advanced growers are welcome.
